Obama's Most Liberal Record- Details
During the Mississippi debate, Senator McCain mentioned that the National Journal had rated Senator Obama as the most liberal senator for 2007. Being liberal, or the most liberal may be red meat to conservatives, it may only have a diffused meaning for others. A more detailed look at the actual votes and issues that earned Senator Obama most liberal senator rating, is presented in this series of posts.Of the 36 key votes on economic issues, Senator Obama did not vote on 10.
Here are just some of the key votes on economic issues that earned Senator Obama his most liberal rating:
HR6/Roll Call 611 - Speed up permitting of oil-refining sites (No) Americans will be able to trace future gasoline shortages to this vote by Senator Obama.
HR800/Roll Call 227 - Bypass secret ballot protection for workers during union organizing. (Yes)
Senator Obama's vote on this bill places him squarely in favor of thugocracy, where workers are cooerced into supporting union organizing because they cannot keep their opposing vote secret.
HR976/Roll Call 292 - Expand Children's Health Insurance to higher earning families through a tax on those earning over $1 million. (Yes) Not only would the passage of this bill shift families from private employer provided insurance to the public dole, it would specifically exempt the majority of citizens from having to pay for the profligacy. While this funding method would cover the federal 50% of expenditures, each state would still have to come up with funding for the other 50%. (Unless like California and Massachusetts they expected to pass their deficits to the federal government).
