Obama on Osama: Oh Mama

In an interview with Wolf Blitzer, CNN, Senator Barak Obama makes a very interesting and revealing comment about his plans for Osama Bin Laden.

I will focus on what Secretary Gates and others have indicated is our number-one security threat. And that is bin Laden and al Qaeda. We will go after him. We will kill him, or we will capture him, try him, apply the death penalty to him, where it is necessary.

If Osama bin Laden is captured, tried and convicted, Senator Obama believes the death penalty should be applied to him where it is necessary. Just what does the "where it is necessary" mean? Senator Obama's sentence could have ended after "to him". The added clause "where it is necessary must have had some meaning to him, but what meaning? Perhaps he was considering "where" literally. It might not be necessary to execute Bin Laden if he is tried and convicted in say, a state that does not have the death penalty, like Illinois (nope), Virginia (nope), New York (nope). On the other hand what would make the execution unnecessary? Would Osama agree to assisted suicide? Would he declare himself an Obama supporter and be rehabilitated as Secretary of Sunni Muslim affairs? Perhaps Senator Obama could enlighten us on his thinking.

Can anyone seriously vote for this man?
