An Interview with Hate - Worth a Listen

Johnny Camacho landed a whopper of a “guest” on The VA Teen Caucus Show. Shirley Phelps-Roper of Westboro Baptist Church spews her hate filled speech for nearly an hour on their show. For those of you who don’t know Westboro Baptist Church (not actually affiliated with any Baptist Denomination) is the group that goes around protesting the funerals of our fallen men and women in uniform. In fact, they tried to protest a funeral in an Amish community a while back and even more despicable, they were going to picket the funeral of Virginia Tech Massacre Victims. Why you may ask? Because they want the world to know that God hates Fags (their words not mine). I wouldn’t suggest it but you can find their website at godhatesfags.com. What’s the connection between this and war victims? There is no LOGICAL one.

I don’t necessarily agree with any of their religious views – the host doesn’t think you need to believe the Old Testament to believe the Bible – but that is beside the point. This group does not represent Christianity. I, and many Christians, believe that homosexuality (an action) is wrong. And yes God hates it, but God does not hate the individuals. This is not intended to start a philosophical or theological debate.

The interview/rant of a crazy woman is definitely worth listening to. Her theology is so off based it is incredible. The amazing thing is that she is a lawyer – no wonder our justice system is so messed up. If she can come to her hate filled reading of scripture, what do you think she could do to a statute?

Let me clarify I am a firm believer in the freedom of speech, and as Voltaire said, “I disagree with everything you say, but I will defend with my life your right to say it.” However this does not mean I can’t criticize her. The people of Wesboro Baptist Church come closer to I think anyone else to incitement of violence. These individuals don’t stand for anything remotely close to God’s message.

The reason I say to give it a listen is so that you can hear just how crazy and demented these individuals are. The pod cast may be found here. Camacho also has an excellent write-up here. Camacho did a fairly good job of holding his ground and pointing out some of Mrs. Phelps’ inconsistencies.

H/T to Camacho for landing such an innovative interview.
