Obama – Bloomberg?

Shocking, I know. Let me say it again. One billion dollars. That is what Armstrong Williams suggested yesterday. He claims that:
"The word on the street is that the Obama campaign and New York Mayor Mike Bloomberg have already met and devised an incredible plan if Clinton wins the nominee. Mayor Bloomberg would give nearly $1 billion to Obama's campaign after which Obama would bolt from the Democratic Party and run as an Independent candidate with king-maker Bloomberg as his running mate."
While the Democratic race is far from over, this would be quite a ticket.

However, at least one prominent political scientist thinks a Bloomberg candidacy is the stuff of history.

A Preacher, Actor, African American, A Woman, and a Billionaire??

What do all these have in common? They are all running for president, it seems billionaire Michael Bloomberg is entering the race. Tuesday June 19th Michael Bloomberg officially switched his party affiliation from "Republican" to "unaffiliated" this seems to be a precursor to his 2008 independent presidential bid. Can Bloomberg pull off a successful campaign, or will he just hurt the Republicans chances, or could he even hurt the Democrats? It is rumored that Bloomberg has over 1 billion dollars set aside for his run, which doesn’t sound too crazy when you find out he is worth about 5 billion… although I cannot verify it, I have heard that this is more money then all 43 presidential candidates have ever spent! If money can buy you the presidency then Bloomberg has just purchased a four year contract.

One thing that came to my mind is, will the Republicans take him back if his bid fails? Bloomberg is not known for his outstanding conservative moral outlook on life. Michael supports gay marriage, is pro choice, believes in gun control, and stem cell research,
many of which are also Rudy's stances. He was a lifelong Democrats before his first run for Mayor of New York, he then switched parties to the “Grand ole Party,” in a Democratic area, and still won. when asked why the most recent switch, he said.

"Although my plans for the future haven't changed, I believe this brings my affiliation into alignment with how I have led and will continue to lead our city."

If I were a Republican (which I am) I wouldn’t be too happy about these statements, Bloomberg has been campaigned for by the likes of Rudy Giuliani himself, and now he has turned his back on that support.

Which brings up another point, who would win New York, (if they all got the nomination) Giuliani, Hillary or Bloomberg? Could Bloomberg win New York if the other candidates are not from New York, how loyal are New Yorkers to a New Yorker, or would they vote there conscious? Only time will tell...this could have interesting impact on the 2008 presidential race.
