Thompson Doesn’t Want to “Talk[] About Abortion”

Former Senator Fred D. Thompson doesn’t like to talk about abortion, or at least that’s what he said in 1998. When considering at 2000 bid for President, Thompson said he would rather hang out with the good old boys in the senate than spend “two months in Iowa talking about abortion.”

Mr. Thompson, with all due respect (and I actually do respect him), if you would like to be my President and the President of oh so many Americans that wish to see the vile practice of infanticide (abortion if you prefer) ended, then why don’t you want to discuss the issue? The President is the one politician that must actually deal with the issue because he (or she) has the power to appoint the judges that could either overturn Roe v. Wade and let it be dealt with in the states or further entrench and expand the genocidal practice. (I happen to live in one that would “deal” it a death blow.) Given your previous statements regarding abortion, you may want to find some time to talk about it.

If you don’t have the time to spend “two months in Iowa talking about abortion,” then I know a few candidates who will (and have for that matter).

Sure seemed to be worth the time of the three candidates who the people of Iowa think are the best hope for the Republican Party: Mitt Romney, Mike Huckabee, and Sam Brownback.

Poll Challenge – Who’s Candidate has the Best Netroots?

Who are you supporting for President? The Virginian Federalist: has a poll on all of the 2008 Presidential Candidates. We are challenging Republicans, Democrats, and anyone else to vote for a candidate. But more than that, we want to know who has the strongest netroots support on the web.

This is an open challenge to all. This poll is unique because one can only vote once a month, and it feeds into a national poll. We want to know if your candidate has the netroots support to win this poll.

Currently, Mitt Romney, Fred D. Thompson, and Mike Huckabee have all begun to push our poll as a way to show netroots support. While these types of polls don’t necessarily show voters, they do show who has the strongest, most committed team out there. Currently, Mitt Romney is winning this poll by about 30%.

I know there are Ron Paul, Duncan Hunter, and a myriad of both Republican and Democratic activists out there. I know this site tends to be conservative, but we would like to see the Democrats take an interest in this as well. Currently, Obama is in a very close race with Hillary and Edwards and Gore is not very far behind. If you want to show that your candidate has the best netroots support, get people to vote for him or her on our sidebar.

Huckabee Preparing For Ames Straw Poll

Governor Mike Huckabee is currently focusing his campaign efforts in the key primary state of Iowa. He hopes that a strong performance in the Ames Straw Poll in Iowa will elevate his candidacy to "top-tier" status and is focusing his fundraising and volunteer efforts towards success in that straw poll.

Most importantly, I encourage you to check out Huckabee's new campaign website to learn more about the candidate. You can also request his emails and encourage your friends to do the same. These are great ways to learn more about a candidate who has been impressive every time he has been on a national stage.

It is too early in this Presidential campaign to ignore good candidates just because the media says they are "second tier." Although I have been making a particular effort to learn and write about Governor Huckabee, I think there are several other candidates who have been similarly ignored by most media outlets but deserve a close look by voters. Duncan Hunter and Sam Brownback are both solid conservatives with a great deal of experience. Ron Paul brings a unique, pro-life, libertarian perspective to the Republican primary that has attracted a strong following in the blogosphere. Study as many of the candidates as possible. Make an educated decision. America's future depends on it.
